The Detroit Transportation Corporation (DTC) is the owner and operator of the downtown Detroit People Mover (DPM) system, an elevated, automated light rail transit system in downtown Detroit.

Project Engineer Position

Immediate opening for a licensed, professional engineer to oversee an existing construction project of short duration.  Interested candidates should submit an expression of interest and summary of experience to Barbara Hansen, General Manager of Detroit Transportation Corporation at: bhansen@thepeoplemover.com.

This is a contracted position.

 

Project Manager of DTC’s Document Library

 

Reports To:  The General Manager

 

Experience Requirements:  A minimum of 10 years professional experience in positions of increasing responsibility dealing with corporate level documentation, contracts, archival systems, and asset management.  The experience should be in an industry that relies on sophisticated systems of mechanical, electronic and software assets to provide service or products.

 

Education and Training:        A bachelors degree in science, engineering or a technical field or an associate degree and additional on the job training in concepts and function of system management.  A bachelor’s degree in management with the systems management training and experience is also acceptable.

 

Personal attributes:               Must be an individual who can work with a minimum of supervision and is accustomed to a role that requires working to plans and procedures while remaining flexible to accommodate an existing organization.  Must possess interpersonal skills to work in establishing an organization and also work as a staff specialist that interfaces with all other organizational entities.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Serves as the DTC’s archivist and document specialist for all technical engineering plans and drawings, system maintenance and operating manuals, studies, and corporate documents
  • Implement the approved DTC Configuration Management Plan (CMP).
  • Assume responsibility for existing document management system.
  • Establish a document management and control system with appropriate procedures and staff for the DTC organization.
  • Establish a formal configuration management system with appropriate procedures and staff support.
  • Establish a Change Control Board (CCB) with appropriate procedures.
  • Serve as Chairman of the CCB.
  • Manage the change control process in all respects to assure a structured system for change identification, change approval, change recording and change implementation.

 Salary:  Commensurate with experience and education      

 

ELECTRONIC TECHNICIAN- I

Responsible for performing the maintenance, testing, troubleshooting and repair of electrical, electronic and electro-mechanical systems on light rail transit vehicles; as required to maintain the safety, reliability and efficiency of the Detroit People Mover System.

 

Minimum Qualifications:  Requires advanced vocational/technical training (minimum two year Technical school diploma) in electronic theory and principles (preferably in Power electronics, propulsion & controls, SCADA, signaling and communication). Minimum of two years experience troubleshooting and maintaining electronic equipment and components. This person should be a self-starter and be able to work with the system maintenance manuals to isolate and diagnose equipment failures under tight time constraints.

 

This person will also be required to qualify and occasionally drive the trains in manual mode. Additionally this person may be called upon and be able to walk the guideway to retrieve crippled trains and assist passengers. Military electronic technician or veterans are encouraged to apply.

 

Willingness to work 24/7 work day shift necessary.

 MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN- I

Responsible for performing installation, fabrication, maintenance and on-line troubleshooting and repair of a variety of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and electro-mechanical systems and components of light rail transit vehicles.  

 

Familiarity with rail transit vehicle sub systems and building mechanical systems (HVAC, boilers, elevators, escalators etc) would be necessary. Additional responsibilities may involve track maintenance and repairs.

 

Minimum Qualifications:  Requires advanced vocational/technical training (minimum two year Technical school diploma) in theory, operations and maintenance of mechanical systems for heavy transportation vehicles preferably rail transit.  Minimum of two-year experience in the maintenance and repair of large electro-mechanical systems and components.  

 

This person should be a self-starter and be able to work with the system maintenance manuals to isolate and diagnose equipment failures under tight time constraints. This person will also be required to qualify and occasionally drive the trains in manual mode. Additionally this person may be called upon and be able to walk the guideway to retrieve crippled trains and assist passengers.
