Storekeeper I

 

RESPONSIBLE TO:      Material Control

FLSA:                         Non Exempt - Union

 

Under the direction of the Supervisor of Material Control, this position is responsible for the receiving, distribution and accountability of all material, supplies, parts, tools, and equipment used for the DPM System, and is responsible for maintaining accurate records of all transactions in the DTC’s inventory/purchasing & maintenance system. Takes direction from the department manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Maintains records and accounts for all consumable items to ensure an adequate supply to support the maintenance effort. Must relate usage of material to avoid an out-of-stock condition; maintains records and accounts for all parts drawn from Stores by maintenance personnel to repair DPM system components; maintains records of calibration/certification requirements and schedules equipment to update as expiration dates are due; maintains record on back-ordered parts and alerts appropriate shop personnel upon receipt of such parts; maintains current parts listing in Illustrated Parts Manuals and keeps records of cross-referenced parts; coordinates with Maintenance Department in establishing re-order points and quantities.  Plans and coordinates the receiving, distribution, storage and order of hardware, tools, supplies and equipment to ensure dependable and safe operation of all equipment in the DPM System. Assists in establishing equal or equivalent replacement of components through direct communications with equipment manufacturers and suppliers; applies commercial packing requirements for various types of hardware being shipped to remote locations. Accounts for all materials used in the performance of the maintenance effort, both in card and computer form; accounts for spare items at remote locations, such as power substations or passenger stations. Conducts physical inventory of all parts consumables and equipment and engages in periodic Storesroom cleaning duties (i.e., dusting, sweeping), Operates vehicles with valid driver's license; attends training courses as required; performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Sufficient knowledge of material received to ensure that it meets specifications or to request technical assistance to ascertain specification compliance; knowledge of special handling and/or storage requirements for some electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic components, such as field effect transistors, desiccants, hydraulic pumps and servo-valves; knowledge of packing requirements for electronic test equipment, vehicle and maintenance UHF radio equipment, servo-valves, hydraulic components, knowledge of customs processes & procedure,  propulsion motors and ECU components to be shipped to subcontractors and manufacturers for maintenance or calibration; computer literate, ability to operate fork lift/cranes and hand jack equipment.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

An Associates Degree with relevant experience in inventory control management; completion of vocational or military school in procurement or material controls or equivalent experience; Three (3) years experience in warehouse or stores operation with some experience in material usage control and record keeping.  Other combination of equivalent education and experience may be considered.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Shift work; valid driver's license; must pass a complete physical examination and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

ELECTRONIC TECHNICIAN- I

Responsible for performing the maintenance, testing, troubleshooting and repair of electrical, electronic and electro-mechanical systems on light rail transit vehicles; as required to maintain the safety, reliability and efficiency of the Detroit People Mover System.

 

Minimum Qualifications:  Requires advanced vocational/technical training (minimum two year Technical school diploma) in electronic theory and principles (preferably in Power electronics, propulsion & controls, SCADA, signaling and communication). Minimum of two years experience troubleshooting and maintaining electronic equipment and components. This person should be a self-starter and be able to work with the system maintenance manuals to isolate and diagnose equipment failures under tight time constraints.

 

This person will also be required to qualify and occasionally drive the trains in manual mode. Additionally this person may be called upon and be able to walk the guideway to retrieve crippled trains and assist passengers. Military electronic technician or veterans are encouraged to apply.

 

Willingness to work 24/7 work day shift necessary.

MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN- I

Responsible for performing installation, fabrication, maintenance and on-line troubleshooting and repair of a variety of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and electro-mechanical systems and components of light rail transit vehicles.  

 

Familiarity with rail transit vehicle sub systems and building mechanical systems (HVAC, boilers, elevators, escalators etc) would be necessary. Additional responsibilities may involve track maintenance and repairs.

 

Minimum Qualifications:  Requires advanced vocational/technical training (minimum two year Technical school diploma) in theory, operations and maintenance of mechanical systems for heavy transportation vehicles preferably rail transit.  Minimum of two-year experience in the maintenance and repair of large electro-mechanical systems and components.  

 

This person should be a self-starter and be able to work with the system maintenance manuals to isolate and diagnose equipment failures under tight time constraints. This person will also be required to qualify and occasionally drive the trains in manual mode. Additionally this person may be called upon and be able to walk the guideway to retrieve crippled trains and assist passengers.

Military mechanic or veterans are encouraged to apply.
