Traveling Without Traffic in Downtown Detroit
You have a strategy for downtown parking, but want to grab a meal and see your favorite artists performing at three different Jazz Fest stages. Simple: travel without traffic on the Detroit People Mover (DPM).
JazzFest Related Street Closures
Here are some of the key street closures expected to be in effect:
Beginning 8:30 p.m. on August 29
- Northbound Woodward Avenue from Larned to Monroe
- Southbound and northbound Woodward between Campus Martus and State/Gratiot
- Eastbound Monroe from Campus Martius to Farmer
- Both sides of Cadillac Square from Campus Martius to Bates
Beginning 8 p.m. on August 30
- Southbound Woodward from Michigan to Larned
- Fort from Griswold to Woodward
- Westbound Monroe from Farmer to Campus Martius
- East and westbound Michigan between Griswold and Woodward
Beginning 10 a.m. on August 31
- Congress between Bates and Griswold
Patrons are advised to park near one of the 13 People Mover stations and exit closest to the festival staging. Air-conditioned trains arrive every 4 minutes during special operating hours:
Friday, August 31 6:30 a.m. – 2:00 a.m.
Saturday, September 1 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 a.m.
Sunday, September 2 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 a.m.
Monday, September 3 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 a.m.

Detroit People Mover was constructed in 1987 as part of a planned, regional transportation system. Fare is 75 cents per ride. Any combination of U.S. nickels, dimes and quarters or one DPM token may be used for entry. Tokens are available in all DPM stations. Children, ages five and under ride free.
