DETROIT // The Detroit People Mover (DPM) is closing for approximately 14 days starting on Sunday, June 12 to replace a rail switch and special section of track along on the guideway.
Construction will begin following a full service day on Saturday, June 11, from 9 a.m. until 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning. The system will resume its normal operating schedule at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, June 27. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about the project are answered here.
Passengers who use the People Mover for non-emergency transportation will be able to commute throughout downtown on certain Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) bus lines that travel within the Central Business District. For travel on any DDOT bus within the boundaries of M-10 (Lodge Expressway), I-75 (Fisher) and I-375, passengers will only pay a fare of $.50.
DDOT customer service operators are standing by at (313) 933-1300 or toll-free (888) DDOT-BUS (336-8287) to direct you to the nearest inbound bus line. The customer service hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Seniors or customers with limited mobility can arrange for transportation from People Mover stations with Checker Cab. Customers may call (313) 963-7000 for GPS dispatch of the nearest vehicle. Checker Cab city rates are published and standard fares apply, with an average cost of $6.00 between downtown destinations. MetroLift paratransit services may also be available for individuals requiring ADA accessibility by contacting DDOT at (313) 933-1300.
Many People Mover patrons have shared their thoughts and we appreciate the feedback and communication with us leading up to the construction. Unfortunately, there is no simple way to accommodate the transport of our passengers during necessary repairs while limiting the inconvenience. We appreciate the business and we hope that the savings values of being a pass holder versus dollars spent will be worthwhile as we continue working to maintain the system in a state of good repair.
