Thanksgiving Free Fare Day returns on the Detroit People Mover
- Public rides are being sponsored by Sprint LTE Network as a gift to the community
- The People Mover is working with DDOT to bring city residents and visitors to the parade with the holiday bus schedule
DETROIT, Mich. (11/17/2017) – Posted around downtown is the message “Live Unlimited in the D” – and on Thanksgiving Day, there are no limits to riding the People Mover as the family holiday is once again a “Free Fare Day,” brought to you by Sprint.
This is the second year Sprint has treated the community to use of the People Mover, which will operate a holiday schedule from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The transit system begins its service with Turkey Trot participants and visitors, and returns fans to their cars following the Lions game and other downtown activities. The closest DPM stations for the Thanksgiving Day Parade are Grand Circus Park, Broadway and Cadillac.
“Sprint and the People Mover share a commitment to offer great service to our customers, and in our 30th year, area families can continue to count on us for a great downtown experience,” said DPM General Manager Barbara Hansen.
The People Mover is also coordinating with the Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) for bus riders to have an easy transfer to the Eastside routes affected by parade traffic. Affected routes include #7 Cadillac-Harper, #10 Chene, #31 Mack, #34 Gratiot and #48 Van Dyke. DDOT customers should board these routes at Bricktown Station, located on Beaubien St., north of Larned (DDOT transfer or fare required). Eastside routes will resume service to the Rosa Parks Transit Center at 6:00 p.m. View the system map at www.thepeoplemover.com.
People Mover service will open at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, November 24. Thanksgiving Free Fare Day is brought to you by Sprint, and executed by PTN-Naming Rights.
