One of the best values in town are rides on the People Mover. From sightseeing to a daily commute, passengers have several payment options: Cash, Tokens or People Mover Pass. Children under age 5 ride free.

People Mover token machines are located inside each station.
Monthly / Annual Passes
People Mover Monthly Passes provide unlimited rides and are active through the last day of each month. Annual passes are good for the calendar year.
People Mover Monthly Passes are available online and at the DTC Administrative Office, located in the Buhl Building, 535 Griswold, Suite 400, Detroit, MI 48226. Office hours are Tuesday - Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information, please call (313) 224-2160.
The one-way fare for the Detroit People Mover is $.75. Children ages 5 and under ride free.
Each Detroit People Mover station has several fare gates, including accessibility gates.
Senior Citizen/Disabled Fare
REDUCED FARES FOR ELDERLY AND DISABLED CUSTOMERS
The Detroit Transportation Corporation offers reduced fares on the Detroit People Mover to senior citizens, age 65 and over, and to all disabled individuals. With specially priced People Mover tokens and passes, you can be on board this most advanced metropolitan transportation system at a cost much less than you would expect.
In order to qualify for discounted annual passes and/or tokens, senior citizens must reside in Detroit, Hamtramck, or Highland Park. Applications and proof of eligibility must be submitted in person. Individuals must bring one or more of the following documentation in person to the Detroit Transportation Corporation: 535 Griswold, 4th Floor, Tuesday – Thursday, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
HOW DO I QUALIFY FOR REDUCED FARE?
Senior citizen residents of the City of Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park are eligible to receive one (1) Annual Pass at the discounted rate of $10.00 each year.
Senior citizens and disabled persons living outside these areas may purchase People Mover passes at a 50% discount. Tokens are available to all senior citizens and disabled persons at a discounted rate of just $.35 each.
PROOF OF ELIGIBILTY ACCEPTED
SENIOR CITIZENS need to provide proof of age in the form of either:
- Certified Birth Certificate
- Driver’s License
- Michigan State I.D. Card
- or Medicare Card
Proof of Residency must also be provided in the form of:
- Detroit Department of Transportation / SMART Reduced Fare Pass Card;
- Michigan State I.D. Card;
- or Driver’s License
DISABLED must provide the following Proof of Disability:
- Michigan Secretary of State Certificate;
- Or Medicare Card
WHAT IS THE COST OF A DETROIT PEOPLE MOVER PASS?
Senior citizen residents of the City of Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park are eligible to receive one (1) Annual Pass at the discounted rate of $10.00 each year.
Senior citizens and disabled persons living outside these areas may purchase passes at a 50% discount. Monthly passes are available at a reduced rate of just $5.00 each; semi-annual passes, $25.00; and annual passes, $50.00. The Detroit Transportation Corporation cannot be responsible for lost passes. However, damaged cards will be replaced free of charge.
WHAT IS THE COST OF DETROIT PEOPLE MOVER REDUCED FARE TOKENS?
Tokens are available to all senior citizens and disabled persons at a discounted rate of just $.35 each. This reduced rate and half-fare token is available only at our office located at 535 Griswold, 4th floor, Tuesday through Thursday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Individuals purchasing tokens from vending machines in stations or from outside vendors must pay the full cost of $.75 per token.
