Detroit People Mover Sanitation Activities

The Detroit Transportation Corporation has accelerated its cleaning activities for Detroit People Mover (DPM) service in the effort to ensure safer travel for our passengers.

Cleaning takes place in active station stops and on-board train cars. The People Mover is sanitizing all high-touch, hard surfaces for viruses and bacteria using disinfecting agents approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). For the People Mover, this includes:

  • Handrails
  • Train Seats and Floors
  • Doors
  • Fare Gates
  • Elevators and Escalators
  • Exit Stairwells
  • Map Cases
  • Waste Receptacles
  • Token Machines

Floors are mopped with a bleach/water solution and trains are being wiped down with disinfectants; sprays are being applied to cover wide spaces, incorporating train walls, intercom systems and vents. Full cleaning activities are repeated at the end of service in the maintenance garages overnight.

Because we have escalated cleaning schedules, your patience is appreciated as customers may notice trains arriving at stations slightly later than usual.

The People Mover values our diverse ridership including residents and visitors, therefore passenger safety is always a focus. We are in constant communication with the City of Detroit and will continue to provide updates which inform our customers and employees of prevention measures using personal hygiene practices that should take place during any cold and flu season.

Resources and new developments to prevent the spread of exposure will be shared on our website (www.thepeoplemover.com), Facebook and Twitter pages and signage where necessary.
