Your Detroit Story

“Tell us a little about who you are and what first inspired you to invest your energy in Detroit’s community.”

What first inspired me to invest my energy in Detroit’s community was seeing the resilience of the people in the Detroit music scene in the early 2000s. I’m from Inkster, Michigan, about 12 miles outside of Detroit, but the Detroit art and music community welcomed me with open arms. Detroit has always had a fighting spirit.

Working with the Detroit People Mover has allowed me to see the city from a unique perspective every single day. I’ve watched people head to work, concerts, sporting events, and life-changing opportunities. That inspired me to become part of something bigger than myself. I take pride in helping create positive experiences for residents and visitors while contributing to the energy and growth happening downtown. Detroit is a city that never quits, and I’m proud to play a small role in helping move it forward.

Transportation in Downtown: Then & Now

“In your experience, how has transportation in Downtown Detroit evolved over the years, and what role do you see the People Mover playing in that change?”

Transportation in Downtown Detroit has evolved tremendously over the years. There’s more energy, more connectivity, and more reasons for people to spend time downtown than ever before. To me, the Detroit People Mover is the heartbeat. It’s more than transportation—it’s an experience and a symbol of Detroit.

I’ve seen it connect people to sporting events, festivals, work, entertainment, and culture in a way that keeps the city moving. As Detroit continues to grow, I believe the People Mover plays an important role in accessibility, tourism, and community connection.

Favorite Spot Along the People Mover

“Which station or nearby spot along the People Mover route do you love most, and what makes it special to you?”

One of my favorite spots along the People Mover route is Broadway Station. It captures so much of Detroit’s energy. Between the Detroit Opera House, Paramita Sound, Detroit Beer Company, the YMCA, and the overall downtown atmosphere, there’s always life there.

During big events, you can really feel the excitement of the city. It’s one of those places that reminds me how unique Detroit is—you see people from all walks of life coming together and enjoying the moment.

Hopes & Dreams for Detroit

“When you think about Detroit’s future, what’s one message or aspiration you’d share with the community?”

My hope for Detroit is that the city continues to grow while staying true to its culture, creativity, and community roots. I want people to keep believing in Detroit—and investing in each other. Detroit has always been filled with talent, innovation, and heart.

I hope future generations see Detroit not just as a comeback story, but as a city leading the way in culture, business, entertainment, and opportunity.

Fun Finale: Ride with Anyone

“If you could ride the Detroit People Mover with anyone—past or present—who would it be, and why?”

If I could ride the Detroit People Mover with anyone, it would be legendary Detroit artist J Dilla. His music represented the soul of Detroit in such an authentic way. Riding through downtown while talking about Detroit’s culture, music, creativity, and evolution would be an unforgettable conversation.

Plus, a People Mover ride with a J Dilla soundtrack in the background would feel like the most Detroit experience possible.
